Good afternoon reader, this is Celeste from the Sac BHC Youth Media Team. On Monday, October 7th, I attended to the Covered California Press Conference held by Mayor Kevin Johnson at Sacramento City Hall where people were gathered to listen to the announcement of his outreach efforts to help people get insured under the Affordable Healthcare Act. Mayor Kevin Johnson said that on November 16th, Sacramento will be the first city in California to hold an event partnered with Covered California to inform people about how to enroll in a healthcare insurance program.
Covered California’s executive director Peter Lee says the focus right now is getting people informed. Many community groups were granted money in order to perform outreach to those who need health insurance so that they can become informed and get signed up on the spot. They want to spread the word and get information out to the schools, churches, community centers and festivals so they can make sure the community is aware of the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.
The Sac BHC Youth Media Team will be joining in the efforts to reach out to the youth in Sacramento so they will be well informed on how they will be affected by ACA. It is truly exciting to be able to finally see the efforts in California to get people insured with healthcare reform through ACA. It is also a great story to share with people that Sacramento and California are leading the way in the nation when it comes to getting people connected into the Affordable Care Act.
